What To Bring (all surgeries)

GRS

If you are having  GRS , bring a couple of outfits before and after… otherwise, we supply the hospital gowns, undies, and dressing. We provide you with a quality set of three tapered and graduated stents for dilation – a critical part of your post-operative care. The hospital will also provide you with Triple antibiotic ointment.

Some personal care items you may want to bring: a bathrobe, slippers, hair bands, a mirror for your bedside. Consider your favorite lotion, lip balm, and hard candy or throat lozenges as you are likely to be very dry after surgery while on pain medication. You will also need to buy additional lubrication for dilating such as Surgilube or K-Y along with sanitary pads.

Dr. Bowers may wish you to wear tight-fitting underwear, particularly if there is any swelling so — odd as it may sound — do bring your tightest fitting, snuggiest undies.

Plan on a bit of boredom on those first few days — bring things to pass the time as you recover: books, music and/or movies. Laptops and tablets are fine, the hospital provides complimentary wi-fi access.

To help you get ready for your trip, we’ve put together a GRS Checklist for you to make sure you’ve got everything.

Outpatient Surgery

For those having Outpatient Surgery, consider bringing comfortable clothes to relax in while at the hotel. The Surgery Center will supply ice packs, instruction for your catheter (if applicable) and/or gauze pads (if needed). You should also receive discharge instructions and the phone numbers of Dr. Bowers who you may call or text at any time.

If you have any questions about what you will need, review the surgery packet that will be sent to you 2 – 3 months prior to surgery, and feel free to call Robin!
