Aesthetic Labiaplasty / Labial reduction

History

For a variety of reasons, women may seek to have their labia reduced, reshaped, balanced or cosmetically improved. Reasons can include too much tissue on one side, labial skin getting trapped in zippers or pulled inward during intercourse or even excess swelling from within bathing suits. Some seek cosmetic labiaplasty simply because they do not like the appearance of their inner labia or feel self-conscious about this area of the body. Dr. Bowers has many years of experience and scores of patients who have benefitted from her expertise in the aesthetic improvements that are possible for the labia. See examples.

Procedure

The procedure is performed under light general anesthesia in the San Mateo Surgery center as an outpatient. Pain is normally minimal. The procedure takes approximately 1-1.5 hours to perform. The results generally exceed expectations. Recovery is surprisingly quick with most patients able to return to normal activity in one week and resume full activity including intercourse by 6-8 weeks post-op. The final appearance after swelling and bruising have reduced can take up to 6 months. Patients must have someone with them for the first 24 hours after surgery.

Cost

Cost is minimal, usually less than $6,000 due to its ideal scheduling as outpatient surgery. Scheduling is possible by calling Robin. For out of town patients, planning a pre-op visit the day prior to surgery followed by three additional days following surgery is recommended.

Complications

Complications are few, related mainly to bruising, healing and pain in the region. Scarring is possible although rarely seen. The procedure, due to its nature, is associated with extremely high rates of satisfaction. The procedure is collaborative between patient and doctor. Tell us what bothers you and we can do a generally good job of matching hopes with expectations. Patients are given Dr. Bowers cellphone number following surgery. We want you to do well!
