Located 3 ½ hours south of Denver along I-25, Trinidad sits at 6025 ft elevation, located in the foothills just east of a range of mountains know as the "Sangre de Cristo" (Blood of Christ), a southern extension of the Rocky Mountains. Trinidad reached early historical importance as a frontier boom town along the Santa Fe Trail, situated in extreme south-central Colorado, just north of the Raton Pass into New Mexico. Although Trinidad's census was once at 50,000 people, the decline of coal mining has slowly eroded its population which now stands at just over 10,000 hearty souls. Driving Distances
