Travel & Parking

The minimum length of your stay in Burlingame will vary depending on the type of surgery you are having: For GAV, you’ll be in the area a total of two weeks (14 days), including before and after surgery. Three of those nights will be in the hospital.  Outpatient surgeries such as labiaplasty and tracheal shave require a 5 – 6 night stay in the area. If you are having an outpatient procedure, you will need to find accommodations for all nights.

Where to Stay?

Here is a list of hotels in the area.  Keep in mind that you’ll receive a detailed information packet from us prior to surgery, and should not book flights or hotels until you receive that.  It will also be a final confirmation of the surgery date, which sometimes shifts slightly in the time leading up to surgery.

  • San Jose International Airport (SJC): 30-45 minutes from San Mateo.

Bay Area From Above

How does one get from the airport or hotel to the clinic and hospital?

You’ll find that most of the hotels offer free shuttles to and from the airport.  The Sonesta E.S. Suites (previously known as The Staybridge Inn and Suites), for example, offers free shuttle rides twice hourly for anywhere within a 5 mile radius (which conveniently includes Mills-peninsula Hospital and our clinic on Lorton Avenue!!). For any other transportation, you will need to use a taxi or car service.

Taxicab Companies:

  • Merit Taxi (650) 571-0606
  • Peninsula Cab (650) 787-3778
  • Yellow Cab (650) 342-1234

Rental cars:

Cal Train
Public transportation in the Bay Area is excellent generally with Caltrain linking from the South as far as San Jose and via BART to the north (with a transfer in Millbrae). There is a convenient Burlingame Cal Train stop in Burlingame directly across from our office. Not every Caltrain stops in Burlingame, however, so be certain to check.

Post-operatively, will I need to get myself back to the hotel?

After surgery,  you will need to take a taxi or have your support person drive you back to your hotel. You will return to our clinic on Lorton Ave 6 days after your surgery.

Will I need wheelchair service in the airports?

If you did not require a wheelchair en route to surgery, you most likely will not require one afterwards

Anything special I should plan on vis a vis flights?

Aisle seating is a good idea, pack light, and don’t order the tomato juice (with its 1100 mg of sodium)

Accommodations

GAV requires a 3 night stay in the hospital. You will need a hotel room the two-three nights before your surgery, and we recommend you stay in the area for another 4-5 nights after your post-operative appointment to regain strength before traveling, and to be nearby in case of problems. You will be in Burlingame a total of 14 days, including before and after surgery. Outpatient surgeries such as labiaplasty and tracheal shave require a 5 – 6 night stay in the area.

Do not book flights or hotels until you receive a detailed surgery packet with confirmation of the surgery date from us.  You will receive this 3-4 months prior to surgery.
