Dr. Bowers was featured in Askanews Italia regarding her work on functional clitoral restoration surgery for survivors of female genital mutilation.
“These surgeries are very important for Kenyan women, especially because there are many medical complications due to infibulations: obstructed urethral canals, urinary tract infections or cysts,” (Marci Bowers, MD).
The operations not only help women to regain their sexuality, pleasure and, above all, health but allow them to regain their female identity.
“What we do in the operating room is to free a portion of the clitoris, an organ that is largely hidden under the skin. We bring it to light so that it is accessible during sexual intercourse,” (Marci Bowers, MD).
